Fog Foils French Leader Team Visit

A group of visitors from Aurillac were due to arrive on 22 November to inspect Adrenaline Alley in Corby and on the following day visit six of our Leader projects.

Unfortunately at the last minute, flights from France were cancelled due to fog and so the visit has been postponed until 2012.

This is one occasion when our British weather cannot be blamed!

New Grant Scheme Launched

Under a new initiative grants of 40% of costs up to a maximum £25,000 contribution are available to farmers, foresters and horticulturists in respect of the following initiatives:

Nutrient Management: Improvements in use of farm manures and slurries so as to improve soil quality and reduce reliance on artificial fertiliser.
Eligible items include slurry injectors, mechanical slurry separation systems and Global Positioning Systems.
Energy Efficiency: Projects to reduce or recover energy use on farm resulting in a reduction of farm energy bills and carbon dioxide emissions.
Eligible items include heat exchangers, gel coolers and ice builders.
Water Resource Management: Rainwater harvesting, recycling and reuse systems to reduce reliance on mains water.
Eligible items include pipework specifically to intercept and divert roof water to a storage facility, rainwater harvesting equipment.
Animal Health and Welfare: Projects which bring about significant improvements in farm animal health and welfare.
Forestry: Projects which improve the economic value of forests through the efficiencies of improved processing and adding value.
Eligible items include timber processors, forwarders, forestry trailers, tractors mounted forestry grabs.

New Bridge Crossing Completed

The LEADER funded bridge crossing over the Nene, linking Frontier Centre, Irthlingborough with Stanwick Lakes is now open following a well planned delicate process which included temporary closure of the of the river to boat traffic.

Water sports facilities will now be available on lake five with this new bridge access and an official dedication ceremony will take place in early 2012.

Partnership Meeting 21 July 2011

The meeting held at The Tollemarche Arms, Harrington considered several new Expressions of Interest and following this, current grant recipients provided updates on their projects.

The next meeting will take place on Thursday October 20th 2011.

2011/12 Funding

The North Northamptonshire LEADER budget for 2011/12 has now been confirmed at £582,000 and new enquiries are invited through to the end of of the programme in December 2013. Northamptonshire ACRE now manage the LEADER programme directly with DEFRA.

Chelveston Equestrian Centre Opens

The new stable block will provide a full livery for ten horses and includes a menage for exercising and schooling. Recently re-opened bridleways provide an added benefit and allow additional safe off road exercise facilities.

New Footbridge Over The River Nene

Rock UK Adventure Centre Ltd based in Irthlingborough has successfully bid for LEADER funding to construct a new crossing over the river to provide access to Stanwick Lakes Number 5. The newly accessed lake will be used for non-motorised water sports. Construction work is planned for completion prior to the arrival of winter migrating water fowl and the facility will be readyfor the 2012 season.

Cottingham and Middleton Village Shop & Cafe

Cottingham and Middleton Village Shop &Cafe opened on Friday September 2nd 2011 with the aid of LEADER funding. £58,000 has been awarded towards the project and residents also raised funds by buying shares.

A New Playground for The Tollemarche Arms

The Tollemarche Arms’ (Harrington) new playground facility will soon be ready.

Work is due to commence 4th April with a target completion date of 8th April.

Marketing has commenced and leaflet drops will be commencing on 4th April.

There will be an ’opening ceremony’ on 15th April at approximately 5pm, the Deputy Mayor will also be attending.

Collyweston Community Shop

The shop is now in the second year of trading and as a further celebration on Thursday September 1^st 2011 came first out of 90 entrants to claim the Local Food Heroes category sponsored by CPRE as one of the ten categories in the Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards at the Holdenby House Dinner.
